Waiting to Cross

One of the problems with traveling so much is that my sleep cycles are often completely screwed up. One day last week I decided to take advantage of my earlier waking to wander down to the Bainbridge ferry to take some photos. I couldn't get the angle I was looking for, but on my walk back to my parents' place I did catch the sunrise.

Setting Sound

On my birthday this year, I celebrated a friend's birthday by going on a cruise with his friends and family. It was one of those short 4 day cruises from Seattle up to Victoria and Nanaimo. We had a great time and the weather was surprisingly good. On the way out from Seattle, the sun was just setting. And as I looked out to west, I could see the sun setting over Bainbridge Island where my parents live.

Handheld HDR taken from a cruise ship in Puget Sound. Selectively tweaked with Topaz Adjust using ReMask2.

Microsoft in a Different Light

It seems like a long time ago, but for about 5 years I worked on the main campus at Microsoft. I had a Nikon Coolpix 950 at the time and one of the differences between that camera and the ones available today was that if you put on a very dark filter, you could take handheld, digital infrared photos with it. This one I took in September of 2000 on the parking lot of the then brand new buildings 40 and 41 I think. The building I was in, 22, was just down the hill from here. I can't remember what products were based in here, but towards the left side of that pic was one of the cafeterias that stayed open late so I knew that part pretty well.

Going to Sea

One of the main purposes for my last trip to Seattle was to go on a weekend cruise with a friend from Microsoft and a large group of his friends and family. We left from Seattle and went up to Victoria and Nanaimo. It was a great trip. To get to the cruise I had to take the ferry from Bainbridge Island where my parents live. On the way over, I saw the boat I was going to be sailing on waiting at the port.  It was wonderful finally being able to take one of these ships rather than just watching them leave.

This is a 3 image handheld HDR. It was processed in Photomatix, then tweaked with Topaz Adjust and Topaz DeNoise.
